Professor Marie-Claude Heuzey wins an award from the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry
Marie-Claude Heuzey, full professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, has been honoured with a 2025 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering award from the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in recognition of her contributions to the field of chemical engineering.

Professor Marie-Claude Heuzey.
The IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering awards, initiated in 2011 and presented every two years, acknowledge and promote the work of women chemists and chemical engineers worldwide. The 12 awardees for 2025 were selected for their excellence in basic or applied research, their distinguished accomplishments in teaching or education, or their leadership or managerial distinction and service to the scientific community.
Professor Heuzey is the first woman from the Polytechnique Montréal community to receive this award.
“I am honoured to be part of this group of inspiring female winners whose achievements are helping to raise the profile of women in science,” says Professor Heuzey.
Established in 1919, IUPAC is dedicated to the advancement of the chemical sciences and to the development of worldwide communications in this field. This learned society is recognized as an authority on chemical nomenclature, terminology, standard methods of measurement, atomic weights and many other critically evaluated data.
The awards will be presented at the IUPAC 2025 World Chemistry Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this coming July.
This is the second honour in as many years for Professor Heuzey. In 2024, she was awarded the title of Fellow of the Society of Rheology, a professional organization for people interested in the advancement and applications of rheology, the science of the deformation and flow of matter.
Congratulations to Professor Heuzey!
