COMPLETE YOUR IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)

Foreign nationals wishing to study for a maximum of six months, and who complete their course or program within the period authorized for their stay in Canada are not required to have a CAQ or Study Permit. This is generally the case with foreign students who come to Canada for a short-term stay, e.g. as part of a one-term exchange program.  These students can come to Canada as visitors.

However, there are some advantages of holding a study permit.

To learn more, visit the immigration procedures section of Polytechnique Montréal’s international students website.

Also, depending on your nationality, to enter Canada as a visitor, you will need either a Temporary Resident Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization. Only American citizens are exempt from either requirement.

LEARN ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE COVERAGE

International students are automatically enrolled in the International Student Health and Hospitalization Insurance (ASHEE).

However, many students (including most students from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden and Romania) may be exempted from ASHEE and thus benefit from the Quebec public health insurance plan (RAMQ).

For more information, consult the section of the International Students website on the mandatory insurance plan and its exemptions.
