Find Your Zone: Three Types of Open-Plan Workspaces at the Library
August 30, 2022

Since summer 2022, the Library’s open-plan workspaces have been divided into three distinct types of study zones. These areas are designed to accommodate specific needs that you may have regarding the environment in which you study.

To help you select the zone that best suits your needs, we provide you with the following guidelines:

Silent zone – 7th floor

  • Individual work, strictly in silence;
  • All devices turned off or silenced;
  • Large silent workspace furnished with individual desks.

Quiet zone – 8th floor

  • Individual work
  • Infrequent, quiet conversations allowed
  • Large quiet workspace furnished with tables.

Collaborative zone – 7th and 8th floor

  • Teamwork;
  • Conversations with a moderate tone;
  • Two large collaborative workspaces furnished with tables;
  • 7th floor’s collaborative zone equipped with 21 desktop computers. Available software.

Should you have any questions concerning our study areas, you may ask for on-site assistance from Library staff. New at the Library: More Room to Study!
August 19, 2022

It was an eventful summer at the Library! We took advantage of the lull to optimize the layout of our spaces. Print books from the General Collection were moved to the 8th floor and, following an assessment, some were moved to an off-campus storage facility, but remain available for loans.

Reviewing the Library’s physical collection allowed us to save a lot of space in the 7th floor’s silent zone. Amongst other things, we have installed beautiful new electrified desks in that area. The 8th floor’s individual workspace also got transformed into a quiet zone where brief discussions in a low voice are allowed (more information is to come on how to properly use the Library’s different open-plan spaces).

We invite you to come to the Library and enjoy our spaces tailored to your needs!

If you have any questions concerning our workspaces, please feel free to contact us by email at biblio@polymtl.ca or by chat using the feature available on the Library's website.

Space Optimization: Relocating Part of the Library’s Print Collection
July 25, 2022

Since fall 2020, the Library has been working on an important project that involves the digitization, weeding, and relocation of its physical collection. This major project aims to increase the number of seated places for both individual and collaborative work. Eventually, it will also allow for the addition of new study rooms.

As part of this project, a portion of the Library’s physical collection is to be moved to an off-campus preservation facility. The relocation will take place in the week of July 25-29, 2022. During this period, the targeted documents will be unavailable. Once the move is completed, you will be able to place a hold on these documents through the Sofia Discovery tool.

Please note that the printed books to be moved off-campus were selected on grounds of their low usage. Thus, the Cultural Collection, the Reference and Dictionaries Collection, documents at the Course Reserve, Techno-Prêt equipment, printed journals, dissertations and theses as well as highly borrowed printed books will remain at Pavillons Lassonde’s Louise-Lalonde-Lamarre Library; only printed books that are older unfrequently borrowed will be moved off-campus.

Should you require assistance with locating resources or with anything else that concerns the Library’s collection, the staff at the Service Desk and at the Reference Desk is always available to provide help. You may also reach us via chat by using our website’s Ask a question option website or by emailing us at biblio@polymtl.ca.
